Painted the trousers of 72 Hungarians.

Then realised they were wearing helmets not shakos

Damn and blast.

The pretty lace down the front is only on the helmet figures.

I'm guessing it's that awful "I thought I was done…and not." feeling!

Yes, Hungarians wore the helmet. Wargame tradition has it that for 1809 games only Austrians can wear helmets, Hungarians in shakos

The clue could have been the knee gaiters or lack of them!

Tally Ho!

I've repainted them now.

I refer the honourable gentlemen to the comment I made at the top of the thread.

They were bought in proportion. And strictly speaking 1809 Austrians were in shako, but we get away with it because of assumed slow reequipment rates applying to all of KaK.

However the thought is appreciated :)

Nick. These are the MDF ones I put on Pendraken forum.

Where have you been, not seen you post there for ages.

Eh, done that already, paint something or a unit then turn around and change it right after.

Surprised that title got through!
I see little to gain from repainting.

And strictly speaking 1809 Austrians were in shako

Hungarians may well have worn a type of shako early on; then a newer type (in my understanding) issued during 1805, but not necessarily all units adopted and/ or were issued with them until equipment wore out.

There being a significant gap between 1805 and '09 and a reduction in units maybe they all had them. Equally if the effort to change 'homeland' regiments uniforms was strong, maybe the quota was assigned to them first.

Not a radical first world problem to have some 'different' uniforms amongst ones army, despite my agreed 'theme' of accuracy as much as possible.

The Austrian Army was no different to any other army in terms of uniform supply and logistics. At Wagram there were still many Hungarians in the helmut, not every regiment had changed.
