"President Donald Trump said Tuesday that military mobile hospitals are on standby to back up local hospitals in combating the coronavirus outbreak.

In addition to the mobile hospitals, Trump said that the Army Corps of Engineers has been alerted to be ready to renovate empty buildings to serve as isolation units for a potential surge of coronavirus patients, which could overwhelm local facilities…"

My last two years in the Navy were with a Fleet Hospital. Of course that was twenty years ago.

Spoke with a friend of mine this morning who was a Chief Petty Officer in a Naval Construction Battalion. He laughed when I said "Why don't they call in the Seabees….they could build Johns Hopkins in a week." Serious thought though that they could be of tremendous help.

This of course, coming from an old Jarhead with a long memory and deep gratitude for what those guys did for us in Vietnam.

I have the utmost respect for the US Military's logistic and medical capabilities, they are on a par with the best expeditionary medical capabilities in the world. But they are very limited compared to the fixed medical infrastructure in the nation. I understand the politics about deploying them. I think there effect will be more psychological then medical. Which is appropriate since a large percentage of the issues caused by this pandemic are as well.
