"This is a Regiment de Watteville button. There is a crown on top with what appears to be the GR cipher and the name of the regiment around the outside edge. The button is metal, possibly pewter, and measures 1.5 cm in diameter. This was a regiment of Swiss mercenaries in the British Service. Commanding officers included Abraham-Louis-Charles de Watteville (May-September 1813), Carl Vicktor Fischer (October 1813-December 1814), Gabriel Rudolph May (January-February 1815). The regiment was stationed in Upper Canada during the War of 1812-1814 and helped in the defense of Fort Erie in August 1814, which was later burned down by Americans…" link
