Since some of us will be spending some time at home. I have had some great results From Allvideo Classic Games I would like to share.

Last year I bought Panzer General and Star General (SSI) and yesterday I ordered People's General and Fantasy General.

Chris Newman has taken all the upfront work out of getting these game to run on modern machines. You just insert the disk and it runs the load .EXE file. This takes care of everything else. My limited understanding is that the load created an executable that then starts a virtual machine on your PC and runs DOSBOX to bring up the game.

Chris has all the old classics (like the SSI 5 star series) as well as Steel Panthers, Sid Meier's Gettysburg, Age of Rifles, and more.

Wow, some loved games there. Aces of the Deep, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. Also some forgotten goodies too.

Another possibility is gog.com. They do the same: give your windows 10 a platform that accepts and plays a lot of the originals, which you can download from gog. I've got Red Baron, Pirates, and Darklands, and they all work perfectly on my windows 10. Very happy with them.

Aw man, I loved Star General and Outpost. Thanks for the tip!

Can we play Silent Service II? I think I have the actual CDs.

Two of my old games are on there- Aces of the Deep and A10 Tank Killer II. Those were the first two Games I worked on. Brings back memories of a simpler time. Dynamix was a hell of a company.

Many of the games on that site are on Gog, though.

RE Star General.

That was the old game that got me started down this path. I loved it back in the day and found an old copy. I managed to get it running using dosbox, however, I could only get the small to medium sized maps to run.

Working with dosbox is no joy and the set up from Chris worked right out of the box on both Windows 10 and XP. As a bonus I was able to access the larger maps for Star General.

There's also GOG (Great Old Games) and they have some of the same stuff along with some different games:

I miss M1 Tank Platoon and the original Harpoon.

Oh Steel Panthers.
From this and a bit of searching seems a company has a current version of the game out there.
But between this and GOG, my love for Ultima and the AD&D games are covered.

Have several boxes of the old games. The biggest problems are that at least some of the games were written for the graphics/sound cards of the time. Tried to run them with no sound and it worked (sort of) but ran too fast.

I just ordered Railway Tycoon II. I loved that game.

Scott,

That's one of the great things Allvideo Classic Games. Chris has done all the upfront work to get the game to run normally.

It's pretty much load and play. Chris also gives tech support if you run into any issues. That said, I have not needed to use it.

Here's a great site. Free is real slow, but for a few bucks, $7 USD for one day or $10 USD for a month, you can DL some awesome games.

I probably had more fun playing "Silent Hunter" than any other PC game. I will be getting that one for sure. Thanks for making us aware of these. I could spend hundreds of dollars getting these old games that I was once so fond of.
