Hi all. We're preparing to break Battlesystem 2E out for our next club game. In my google search and prep for the gameI've been finding references to house rules, new points values, new monsters, spells and equipment that people have created for Battlesystem,, each of which seems to have been moved to the old Battlesystem yahoo group for safe keeping.

Doh! Since they've all evaporated into the ether, can someone email any Battlesystem docs they might have on their hard drive to me? You can send them to me at 1000footgeneral@gmail.com

Many thanks!

I am accessing my yahoo Email account through AT&T. You might check with AT&T.

The Yahoo groups? I thought those were nuked? Every link to a Battlesystem yahoo group comes up blank.

The Yahoo Groups still exist, but all the contents were removed and they only operate as mailing lists.

The Yahoo Battlesystem Group is here
link

It might be worth joining and asking if anyone can let you have the old files (before Yahoo killed things you could ask them to let you download a zip file with the contents of your groups, so with luck someone will have them).

PS you could try and persuade them to set up a group on Groups.io
groups.io/groups
which works much as Yahoo Groups used to but better, and if anyone has preserved the files they could be uploaded there (a number of the active Yahoo groups I was in have done this)

Well, no reply from the yahoo email list. Does anyone know how to get in touch with TMP member Sgt Slag? He seems to have a ton of Battlesystem "stuff" and is willing to share it via email.

Hey, JSears, happy to help. I need to dig out the files on my laptop. Will try to do that later today.

I have magic item lists, and night vision rules, but that is about it.

The 2e AD&D rulebook, Tome of Magic, contains a lot of new magic spells in the War Sphere of Cleric spells, which were written in BS format -- useless, without conversion, in the RPG! Try for a hard copy, on e-Bay, or Amazon, or other used book sites, or print off the relevant pages, as desired. The War Sphere of Cleric spells is really the most useful, but the magic items list, in the back, also contains several items intended for the BS game: Bag of Bones (creates a Unit of Skeletons, instantly); Horn of Valor: increases Morale of friendly Units, lowers Morale of enemy Units in the Area of Effect;and finally, Law's Banner: increases Morale of friendlies/decreases morale of unfriendlies, within a 1/4 mile, who can see it.

I'll get back to you on the files I find.

Spend some time reading the sections on making additions to the game, such as creating stats for creatures/races not listed in the book. I ran a Lich commanding an army of undead. I gave him a special artifact, which allowed him to take control of any unit, at the beginning of any Turn, as desired. He also used intelligent Undead as Unit Commanders (Vampires, amongst other types of intelligent Undead), which avoided using them strictly as Land Torpedoes. The game is comprehensive, with plenty of adaptability for new things, and rules. It allows for participant creativity, which is what makes it truly a great game. Cheers!

Awesome! Thank you! I can discuss over email, but I read an old post about an alternate point system, or rebalancing of the points. Do you have any info on that?

Also I can eyeball points for new monsters, but there are only a few characters in the rules. Are there any helpful rules for determining point costs for individual characters?

I don't believe I have anything on alternate point systems, but if I do, I will share it. I sorted through all of the example scenarios, picking out the Heroes demonstrated, noting PC levels, and how they translated into BS rules. I like a little looseness in the rules, as it invites players to take part in the game design, expanding the rules, as necessary.

I don't remember anything about Heroes and points. I never really paid much attention to points, other than the overall army points, to try to "balance" the scenario. Factoring in the defenses, is a bit tougher.

Through experience, I determined that hard defenses, such as a castle, functions as a force multiplier of 3x to 5x! Truly, a few can defend a castle against a horde…

I typically match up heroes on each side, by levels being equal. It has served me well enough, without getting too far into the weeds. ;-)

No matter how hard I try to "balance" a scenario, I hear players on both sides complain, "There is no way we can win this!" Both sides' players! LOL! I've discovered that when I am a player, I get blinders on, and I cannot see clearly; when I am a detached referee, I can see very clearly. Hah-ha-ha! Cheers!

E-mail sent, with attachments. Cheers!

These were a big help. Thanks Sgt Slag!
