Looks like we will have extra time on our hands so let's paint something.
I suggest we dig out some old unpainted miniatures and get them painted.
Please post what you are working on and the pictures when you're done.

Not only unpainted, but there may be a unit or two with a less than stellar paint job. Refreshing old work or working to a new level can be just as rewarding and may take less time.

The painting table is heaped high with work under way. But I doubt even our current Piffle Plague will last long enough for me to make much of a dent.

Been working on projects old and new this year. Currently Croc Games Spartans, last week Eureka 15mm Modern Russians.

Picked up a Treant model, a couple of months ago, which was factory primed. I slapped some paint on it over the last couple of days, drying it with a heat gun, so I could apply The Dip -- Royal Walnut color. Used the heat gun, again, to speed up drying of the solve-based urethane-stain. I then painted Wood Glue on the base, and applied two different sand coatings (one brown mixture, and another mixture of greens with model RR ballast, for rocks), for ground coverage. I used the heat gun, yet again, on the sand mixtures, to speed up drying. It had an unexpected effect…

The heat caused the Wood Glue to basically boil up, beneath the sand, hardening in the process. This created a rolling, mound of colored sand, creating an uneven ground on the figure's base, for the Treant to walk upon. Quite unexpected, but rather nice, IMO. Tonight, after work, I will glue on some Reindeer Moss on the Treant's head and one elbow, then apply a matte clear coat, to finish it.

The heat gun's effect on the underlying Wood Glue was a complete surprise, and quite nice, too. I will post photo's of it later. Cheers!

I'm working on a witch finder project that went dormant a year or two ago. I still go to work, so I don't have any extra time. I actually have less time since I have to go to multiple stores just to buy necessities.

Indeed!

Remember to save a bit, just in case.

Been on a roll lately:

1) Based up my ancient Sumerian army.
2) Built all my 20mm Italian models/vehicles/cannon and in the paint shop now. Nothing like working on a CV 33/35 with morning tea.
3) Writing up a Battle of Daras 530 AD scenario for future Clash of Empires game.
4) Basing a few Sassanid Persian 28mm miniatures later this week.
5) Painted up my resin 28mm castle walls.
6) Constructed more movement trays for future Clash of Empires battles. Mostly 10 or 12 cavalry miniature trays. Need them for larger tabletop Sassanid battles.
7) Plans for finishing up my Retreat from Moscow miniatures so I can plan a winter retreat 1812 battle.

Still, the lead mountain stands tall.

NO WAY! I heard you can't die until all your lead is painted….. So I'm keeping a stash on hand….

jdpintex18 Mar 2020 10:20 a.m. PST

I was trying to organize things and found two boxes of bags of unpainted miniatures, so I have plenty to paint.

However, I've gotten backed up on final basing and preparing boxes to keep the figures in. And since SWMBO is also home, I can't use the dining room table for 'things' as she would totally flip (it is not for my gaming things, except when she is traveling out of town – she doesn't have to know everything).

I have been able to paint for myself finally. Enjoying it so much I have put of working on a customers figures. Not really a good thing to do.

Surely it's better to support small business by buying new models and paints during this time rather than clearing old stuff IF your finances allow?

I'm thinking of painting up a load of RISK figures I've had for years, to use with The Portable Wargame.

Not my fault, Andrew, and not money either.

--It's paint H&R out of my existing stash or not paint them at all.
--Steve Jackson Games won't sell Combine vehicles for OGRE, so it's back to my reserve of Pan-Europeans.
--Neither Victrix nor Perry make plastic AWI cavalry, so it's back to painting up what infantry remain.
--And don't get me started on scale creep making it impossible to expand existing armies with new figures.

The manufacturers have to meet me part way: they have to build something I can use in a scale to match my existing forces.

I have a bunch of Firing Line Continental dragoons I could work on…..

Hitman18 Mar 2020 4:28 p.m. PST

Funny…I just painted a destroyed bridge that I bought in 2000 or 2001. I was quite pleased with the outcome.

Just finished the last units of my 15mm ratmen army. But I still have to work. I imagine I'll be sick within a couple of weeks from the virus, so hopefully I'll have time to paint then.

mrwigglesworth18 Mar 2020 5:18 p.m. PST

I just painted a Rezolution Dravani starter set, Kryomek miniatures and some Reaper bones.

khanscom18 Mar 2020 5:28 p.m. PST

Not old figs, but I was recently gifted with some additions to a Bolt Action "army". Since the local game store that hosted the games has just closed for the duration, I'll have some time to get these finished (maybe).

I've been back and forth with ancients! Caesarian Romans, EIR, Punic Wars, Late Romans. Packed up most of the non-EIR cluttering around and will focus on EIR and Celts and Germans.

The Celts and Germans will work for pretty much all the eras and with focus on EIR first, that will allow me to focus a bit more.

Then there are the 20mm Pacific Theatre and Easter Front …

DOUGKL01 Apr 2020 10:41 a.m. PST

As many of us do I start too many projects and dive into the next cool period before completing one. That being said I just painted 22 Prussian cuirassiers that I bought at my first Historicon. It was the last one held in Lanham Maryland before they moved it to the Penn Harris. So that would be 1988 or 1989 I believe.
