Not only USA but UK and other countries. I know many people skipped Cold Wars in the US but how about your local gaming group or game store? Love to hear about your experiences.

Not at all….yet.

We have a demo game at a local show in August. I'm not sure what will happen to it, as it is a fair way off. But given the average exhibitor could give Methuselah a few years, I'm not sanguine.

Last week I started taking the "social distancing" very seriously, so I'm not gaming at all for now. I skipped the club meeting today, I know a few others who did as well, and one of the games got canceled for coronavirus fears. I had fully intended to run a game myself, but I never even scheduled it. I haven't heard yet about how the attendance was.

I also called off planning for my birthday game this year (late March).

One of my two big trips for the year just got rescheduled to late July. I would like to make the new date, but all plans for the year are tentative, and I already have a conflict in the same time frame. We'll see.

I will not be the least bit surprised if my Memorial Day convention is also canceled. As of today it's currently still on, but of course that may change.

On the bright side, I should be able to get a lot done in the craft room for the foreseeable future.

not at all.

No effect whatsoever, apart from being a source of pre-game conversation!

setsuko15 Mar 2020 2:17 a.m. PST

Self-distancing and focusing on painting this spring. Since I switched to work-from-home I'll hopefully be able to turn some commuting hours into hobby hours, so that I'll be able to bring out some new napoleonic battalions when things calm down.

David Manley15 Mar 2020 2:17 a.m. PST

Not at all as yet, I wasn't planning on going to many shows this year anyway. If I end up self isolating there will be some benefits though in being able to attack the lead/resin pile with paint and brush, and get a few projects sorted out

No effect

GildasFacit Sponsoring Member of TMP15 Mar 2020 2:44 a.m. PST

No effect at present. I haven't planned on going to any shows in the near future and most of our gaming group are retired so not directly affected work-wise.

Due to my wife's medical condition I am going to be isolated in our house, So I should have more painting time.

Not yet. I suspect that the first severe impact will be if group gatherings are banned then attending events such as Salute will be problematic.

Currently it is 'Keep Calm and Carry On'.

Several conventions (Red Lion, Do or Dice) our club planned to attend are cancelled :-(

Timmo uk15 Mar 2020 5:13 a.m. PST

No effect.

Royal Marine15 Mar 2020 5:24 a.m. PST

I've been social distancing for years … I'm a wargamer!!

Cornelius15 Mar 2020 6:05 a.m. PST

Working from home means 2 hours not spent commuting … so a benefit. On the down side, the weekly game may be cancelled.

14Bore15 Mar 2020 6:26 a.m. PST

I'm a solo gamer except the few games at conventions, as long as food is supplied I'm good.

4th Cuirassier15 Mar 2020 6:27 a.m. PST

I'm buying shares in the publishers of solo wargame rules.

redbanner414515 Mar 2020 6:46 a.m. PST

Most of our group did not go to Cold War's. It looks like our weekly game night might be canceled.

Ed Mohrmann Supporting Member of TMP15 Mar 2020 6:58 a.m. PST

We had another 'learning' session of the ESR rules
planned for yesterday (Sat, 3/14) but 'twas canceled
since both the host and GM have some health issues.

A new con has been developed here and is to run
first w/e in April. For now, the governor has issued
an Executive Order banning gatherings of 100 or more
folks, so don't know where the new one stands.

ashauace697015 Mar 2020 7:05 a.m. PST

Coming home from Con
Will cancel our Wednesday gathers as a precaution
But next week should be on

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP15 Mar 2020 7:08 a.m. PST

None, but then I play infrequently. Actually started painting some figures yesterday for the first time in weeks.

corzin15 Mar 2020 7:48 a.m. PST

one night a week me and a couple guys go into a Rehabilitation and Nursing Center to play with one of the old time regular whose house we used to play in.

we are now not allowed in the building per the govenor. i suspect out usual weekend game will still be on for a bit

SgtGuinness15 Mar 2020 8:20 a.m. PST

I cancelled our regular monthly club game that was supposed to be yesterday. It would appear that we may have to put things on hold for a month or two until things start to get better. All schools here have closed as well as sports complexes, libraries, museums, play places, hockey rinks, etc.

Be safe…..

Little Wars is still going on as planned in late April. As a vendor I will probably stay home as sales will not be worth the work involved. But I will attend to deliver some pre-orders, chat with friends, etc. I won't shake hands, stand too close, and will practice good hygiene. If I'm even remotely sick I'll stay home entirely.

Our club is in re-group mode. We have a number of 60+ (and several 70+) and a few of them are staying home. But they have significant risk factors. I will be running games at the club.

We are doing some social distancing but not self isolation. We have three important trips planned (college visits for my daughter to McGill, Trinity and University College London). We still go out to dinner. We're going to a small theater (audience <40).

14th NJ Vol15 Mar 2020 8:53 a.m. PST

Six of us gamed yestetday. Fist Full of TOWS 3 Kursk. Huge Russian win. Might be my last game for a while. Couple of the guys play Bolt Action every Tuesday. They haven't canceled. My work is asking we be careful so we're working from home. Hope to be gaming 3 to 4 week's.

@corzin

That's a shame the old fella will miss his weekly game. Good of you folks to keep him involved.

stephen m15 Mar 2020 11:12 a.m. PST

Up here in the land of ice HotLead was just cancelled and CanGames is holding on for now.

evbates15 Mar 2020 11:19 a.m. PST

I went to Cold Wars and still gaming once a week with my gaming group. So not at all.

darthfozzywig15 Mar 2020 12:25 p.m. PST

Given the demographics of TMP, I'm praying this thread ages we'll come next year.

7th Va Cavalry15 Mar 2020 12:39 p.m. PST

Our game house bailed on us for next game! No, he is taking necessary precautions given all our ages and occupations.
We are always up for doing off week end games in the future to catch up, or just feed our need to play.
When we are not playing we harass each other by phone and email and stay in touch.

Lascaris15 Mar 2020 12:46 p.m. PST

No impact yet, although staying more at home so when my WW3 British show up tomorrow I will be super-focused on painting. :)

rmaker15 Mar 2020 1:16 p.m. PST

The only impact so far has been the cancellation of GaryCon.

7th Va Cavalry15 Mar 2020 2:58 p.m. PST

I heard RustyCon has a good venue and is open for business.

Tgerritsen Supporting Member of TMP16 Mar 2020 6:05 a.m. PST

My wife suddenly wants to play more Pandemic, and my elder son is home from college for the time being, so we plan to play some games.

Getting more painting done.

Other than that, not much yet. Am registered for Little Wars and will go if it is still on by then but won't be shocked if that changes. I am not running anything this year as my old job went away and I wasn't even sure if I was still going to be living in the same area. However I've since found an even better job locally so I don't have to move. Thank God I don't have to do a job search in this mess.

Dynaman878916 Mar 2020 6:33 a.m. PST

The local group cancelled the next two monthly meetings. Since it done in a rented senior day care center space it makes sense to close it. My Face to Face opponent my not be coming by this weekend for our regular game but my VASSAL games are still set.

Tom Reed16 Mar 2020 6:55 a.m. PST

Well all of my local game store have cancelled all in store events and gaming for at least two weeks, and have reduced their hours. We did play at my house this past Friday, not sure if that will change.

Aquahog16 Mar 2020 7:22 a.m. PST

The Swedish government has banned gatherings of more than 500 people. The oldest continually running convention in the country, GothCon, held every Easter, has thus been cancelled this year. Apart from that, no difference so far. It remains to be seen if LinCon in May suffers the same fate.

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP16 Mar 2020 7:35 a.m. PST

Not much.

We have a regular group that meets chez moi. So we are pretty much all in each others' exposure networks. We also know and trust each other, so if someone was exposed to another network, they would likely bow out.

There are some people in the high risk category who are not attending because of the additional risk to them.

And there are some people who are already getting cabin fever from social distancing, so they are likely to move from "occasional" attendee to "frequent". Net zero volume change.

People are more interested in playing Pandemic, but I love that game, so that's a plus.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP16 Mar 2020 8:12 a.m. PST

I can't see me going to a convention this year.

I've got years of backlog of miniatures and unplayed games already, but I really do enjoy conventions, so it's a shame.

Going to try and game on what would have been convention days!

epturner16 Mar 2020 11:52 a.m. PST

I'm at Camp Atterbury, Indiana doing 1800mm Modern Gaming.

We've been advised that when this Exercise is over, we could be bound for State Active Duty when we return.

Fortunately I've got my tool box of figures and paints and my WW2 transit case packed with ACW gaming goodness.

Haven't had a chance to run a game yet, but that may change this week.

All my local counties (SF Bay Area) are going into soft lockdown at midnight (trips only for food & medicine, only service personnel still working outside the home). My voluntary social distancing will no longer be so voluntary. Soft lockdown could soon be hard lockdown, or even complete shutdown.

DeRuyter17 Mar 2020 10:52 a.m. PST

Pandemic games were running like clockwork in the Boardgame library area at Cold Wars.

I hoped to play it now that my son is home but my wife hates it. Lots to paint though.

khanscom17 Mar 2020 6:19 p.m. PST

Not much affected so far; just got an email that the local library has closed for the duration, so no boardgame club meetings unless at a private venue. Could be worse.

TMPWargamerabbit20 Mar 2020 5:53 p.m. PST

Had eleven player Clash of Empires 28mm game scheduled tomorrow (March 21st) at the home warren game room (12x6 table). But with the State of CA ordering almost all to stay at home yesterday except exceptional duties or tasks, the Battle of Daras 530 AD Sassanid vs. Byzantine postponed till date in future. The main local gaming store also closed till further notice….. if they reopen ever again, since the business owner past away in January from cancer.

The empty table…… san players

14Bore21 Mar 2020 3:37 p.m. PST

Got a solo game going so if nothing else instead of weeks it could be over in days

14Bore25 Mar 2020 7:56 a.m. PST

And it was, over by Tuesday night. Now will have to clean them up and start another. Going to do 7yw in 1813.
