I just started reading the first volume of "Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812" and Moldavian troops are mentioned. A footnote states that the Moldavian Divan was approached about the formation of a 10,000 man army that would "wear green uniforms and special headgear, and called the Macedonian dragoons." It further states that the newly recruited troops were sent to the front to assist the Russian army.

Does anyone know anything about this "army" or what the uniform was? I'm not sure where they would get that many uniforms on such a short notice. I imagine a lot of troops would be in Balkan civilian dress.

Thanks.

Enjoy "Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812" by Lieutenant-General Alexander Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky (translated by Alexander Mikaberidze) as they give a good account of the Russian side of the war.

I suspect the green uniforms would have been supplied by the Russians – but have so far been unable to track down any pictures.

Does anyone have access to & can translate the page referenced in the above work: Dionisie Eclisiarhul, Cronograful Tarii Romanesti edited by C. I. Nicolaescu-Propsor (Rimnicu Vilcea 1934) page 137?

I note Viskovatov Volume XA has (but whether these are the above is ????) :

24 November 1806– For the Army operating against the Turks, it was ordered to establish Volunteer Regiments [Volontirskie polki] from volunteer Moldavians and Russian subjects who are not enrolled in any registers: three Horse and three Foot.

Volume XVIII has:
D) Volunteer regiments, 1806-1808.
From 24 December 1806 to 16 May 1808 the Army of the Dniester included Volunteer regiments [Volonterskie polki] of free or unregistered Moldavian and Russian subjects, but these were never completely formed. They numbered three foot and three mounted regiments, and had no prescribed clothing or weapons, but rather wore their own (72).
