In the dim and distant past, I recall an old magazine article from late 80s/early 90s probably from Practical Wargamer or something similar, which had a tactical level ACW game. The interesting thing was the terrain scrolled around you, rather than the traditional wargames set up.

I imagine this could make a pretty interesting ACW game where as a player you command a single battalion, never entirely sure of what is in front of you or to your flanks due, and the game scrolling with you as approach enemy lines etc.

Is there any ACW games like this out there, and does anyone else remember this article? Any thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers, Andy

Well, you could become a Civil War reenactor and spend years working your way up through the ranks to reach battalion command. Lengthy and expensive, but the results are pretty much what you are looking for :)

I recall one in the Courier, doing the 1812 retreat from Moscow. Same concept it would be interesting.
