"Separated from the Sorokin army fighting in early August 1918, the red Taman army of 25,000 people left the Taman peninsula. He moved to Novorossiysk, abandoned on his approach by the German-Turkish landing. On August 18, Denikin moved two columns against this group of reds, the division of General Pokrovsky on the right bank of the Kuban and a group of Colonel Kolosovsky (1st cavalry, 2nd Kuban infantry regiments, battery and 2 armored trains) to along the railway to Novorossiysk. Pokrovsky broke into Temryuk and captured him, but the Taman group, avoiding the fence, ran to the Black Sea. Kolosovsky moved in the opposite direction and took Novorossiysk on August 26, but the Tamanians managed to leave the city, following the path of Sukhumi along the sea, in the direction of Tuapse, where they arrived on September 1…."
