"Our species will face no shortage of existential risks in the coming decades, whether it be from nuclear war, climate change, a bioengineered pandemic, artificial superintelligence, molecular nanotechnology, or threats we have yet to conceive. Despair, cynicism, and misanthropy will get us nowhere, and we need to start thinking of practical ways to ensure the ongoing survival of our species. Our universe has been around for almost 14 billion years and will probably continue to exist for many more billion years. Homo sapiens have been around for approximately 300,000 years—not even the blink of an eye, in cosmic terms. We shouldn't squander our incredible opportunity for a prolonged existence…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

Actually, I think we're down to 10 now, so sometime around 2030 we go extinct. If that doesn't happen, I seriously doubt "humanity" will last "forever", especially given how things are going currently around the globe, unless someone can figure out how to make FTL travel a reality, at a reasonable price-point. If not, humans are doomed, which might not be a bad thing. |

No, we don't go extinct immediately. It just becomes irreversible in 12 or so years. We probably go extinct 50 or so years later. |

" so sometime around 2030 we go extinct." No, that's when the next Ice Age hits, so most of the population will be preserved in the deep freeze… |

That's the problem with doomsday cults, when their end time date passes they have to move it again and again. |

@VCarter That's the problem with doomsday cults, when their end time date passes they have to move it again and again. Yeah, I think I've lived through the end times 5 or 6 times now. So far it's been no big deal. |
