Already around the time of Christ's birth there was a legion camp and extensive military facilities at the northern end of the Limes. Ulpia Noviomagus Batavorum or Nijmegen is thus the oldest city in the Netherlands and was once in the settlement area of the Batavians, a West Germanic tribe…"
