Anyone know who makes figures for the Indian medieval and renaissance period? Mostly thinking of 25-28mm, but willing to consider other figure scales including 10-15mm. Also, what interesting wars and historical peoples are best to get involved with? I'm looking for constant petty wars between colorful armies of widely varied efficiency [or nearly zero efficiency] preferably with elephants, chariots, fanatics and any other ridiculous impedimentia that would have Sun Tzu rolling in his grave! My second choice would be same pre-gunpowder time period, but China. Thanks in advance for any leads in a period about which I know, well, nearly nothing! |

Here you go, 28mm info here… 28mmreview.blogspot.com Use the tabs at the top to select a period. The 'Far East' tab has all the Chinese/Japanese/etc figures for all periods. |

I seem to recall that in the late Medieval period one of the Indian rulers was able to field a large force of elephants and actually use them in massed formation like a sort of armored division to plow through the enemy lines. Unfortunately, I can't provide you with any names or specific dates. One of the plastic manufacturers makes several sets of 20mm Indians. I think these are more nearly 1st Century B.C. than Medieval. It's one of those things I've thought about in a kind of Mystic East way. As you said, lots of exotic troop types, exotic locations and buildings, jungles, great rivers, mountains, and cities, sacred temples. One of Robert E. Howard's Conan stories is set in this sort of world with Conan leading the proto-Afghans/Pathans and a beautiful (of course!) queen leading the Indians as they join together to fight wicked sorcerers. not finding much for medieval Indians. The ancient Indians seem to cover huge time spans, and then the Mongols / Moghuls superimpose themselves on things, and of course one could use those and probably Ottomans for that combination of army. I'm more interested in India than China, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of figures out there except the ancient Indians. |

How about tactical manuals of Ancient Chinese warfare – sort of a "Art of War" but on a more granular scale? I imagine that as a sophisticated culture they must have written stuff down like Rome and Byzantium |
