"Argentine Confederation was the denomination that was used for our country between 1835 and 1861, at that time the provinces formed a confederation of sovereign states that delegated the external representation and certain powers in the government of the one of them. It is one of the official names of the Argentine Republic according to article 35 of the Constitution of the Argentine Nation, together with that of the Argentine Republic and United Provinces of the Río de la Plata.

Currently this denomination is used primarily to identify the period in which the Brig. Gral. Don Juan Manuel de Rosas was the governor of the Province of Buenos Aires and in charge of the foreign relations of the Confederation 1835-1852. During the mentioned period Argentina suffered several wars, it was attacked by the most powerful powers of the moment: England and France and by its neighbor the Empire of Brazil, ally of England. There was also the Expedition to the Deserts of the South and the war against the Peruvian-Bolivian Confederation.

The Argentine troops in that long period were changing but there were some distinctive features that characterized them mainly to the militias: the colorado and / or the turquoise blue in almost all the uniforms, the cap of sleeve and the generalized use of the chiripá…."
