Last week I went to the Marine Memorial Hotel in SF for an Iwo Jima memorial presentation. I met Joe Rosenthal's widow and a Marine Iwo vet named Mr. Earle. Great guy, 97 years old and still sharp as a tack.

When I was leaving I went to the mezzanine floor and saw a new addition that was not there the last time. The entire area has been turned into a memorial wall for the service members that have lost their lives in Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Here are some pictures:

Mr. Earle, Marine Iwo Jima vet

No trip to the Marine Memorial Hotel is not complete without stopping by to say hello to Chesty.

If you think you may have a loved one, relative or friend whose name may be on the wall I'd be honored to check it out for you and send you a good picture.

Thank you, Steve, both for the post and the photos. Seeing the pictures of the Memorial Wall, brought similar emotions, the heaviness in my chest and tightness of my throat as does the Vietnam Memorial. A hearty Semper Fi to those behind the scenes for this well needed memorial. It must have been an honor to meet Mr. Earle and thank him for his sacrifice fighting for our freedom and way of life.

One question, please. Is this Marine Corps Memorial Hotel affiliated with either the Marine Corps League or the Heritage Foundation? I am on the other coast and am not familiar with the Marines Memorial Foundation. This is a great contribution to our history and to the nation.

thanks again,

Sam Lemonds
