The USAF has just developed a new weapon for aircrews to use in case they are forced down in hostile territory. It is based on the Army's M-4 carbine.

Why re-invent the wheel, the FN P90 is compact and spits out a lot of rounds. Just issue that.

Not much R&D I expect, and the M-4 has the advantage of minimal training. Looks like the hard part was figuring out how to break it down for storage in the ejection seat.

An ejection at high speed and it is probably gone with most of your equipment.

I heard the F-111 crews carried an M-16. Both crew members ejected together in a single cockpit capsule.
