Southern France on the border with Spain – Spring 1813 Following the disastrous invasion of Russia, Napoleon has been forced to rebuild his army with newly drafted conscripts and cavalry. His army lacks dedicated corps level artillery units. Wellington's Anglo-Portuguese army crosses the Spanish frontier and engages the French army at the base of the Pyreness and the river and town of Nivelles (not a real town or battle). To read the battle report and see the pictures, go to my blog: link Will the British Cavalry be IMPETUOUS? Can the French cuirassiers drive them back across to Spain? Will Wellington win and move on deeper into France? Check out the battle report to find out! |

Interesting to see a cavalry-loaded battle. And I liked your unusual cloth. I gave up on FOG Ancients because it was slow and fiddly compared to DBA. Maybe FOGN is better. |

The cloth was provided by my opponent Peter, but I have coincidently ordered it from cigarboxbattle.com too. I don't know how FOG Ancients plays, but FOG Napoleonic 2nd edition is *fast*. It's a corps level game designed to be played in clubs and at tournaments and finish in 3 hours. This game took only 1.5 hours because we didn't get the main infantry battle to occur. And 30 minutes of that was setup and deployment, but that can be cut down to about 10-15 once you know what to do I think. One thing I really like is how when you setup the terrain, it's like a turn 0 where your map is chosen BY your general, so a good general will get the terrain she is looking for, but it's still going to be different every game. It dosn't have the…fidelity of Black Powder or I think GdB or GdA. Eg, skirmishers are abstracted as an extra 1d6 at medium range being the most obvious one (and denied if there is an enemy cav unit they are shooting at, and they get a low chance of shooting attached commanders). I understand FOG Napoleonic 1st edition was lot clunkier and the 2nd ed re-wrote it to be much more clearer. |
