Does anyone have the AB Napoleonic French Horse Artillery limber and horses? Trying to determine the size of the base needed for it (not arrived yet) so I can complete a base order. Thinking I may use just 4 of the horses, not all 6.

Guessing maybe 40mm x 80mm?

I mounted the four horses and the limber on a base 20mm x 65mm. That seemed to work well.

I'm in the same boat as you. At the moment I'm thinking of 24mm wide but I'm going to add the traces from brass wire and until I do I'm not yet certain how long the bases need to be.

My terrain has narrow winding roads so I want the bases to be as small as possible.

Though Prussian AB figures the 6 horses and limber is 4 1/2" and the 4 horses comes out to 3"

Thanks. Very helpful. At the moment I'm thinking to use 40mm wide bases, too wide I think but it will prevent my OCD triggering when I 'attach' the gun on its 40mm base (that's with crew though). Alternatively, I might just buy a few extra 6lb guns and mount them as a set. I could not fix the guns to the bases and switch them as needed for limbered / unlimbered. I'm less than keen on having stuff that can 'rattle' around and get lost or damaged when being transported though.

I have my crews glued to the bases but the guns separate. I hate painting guns so I didn't want to duplicate them. My plan is to not have the limber base any longer than it needs to be and not have it projecting beyond the limber. My bases are only 0.8mm thick so the slight difference doesn't matter. This means the whole arrangement doesn't have to be in a straight line but can be adjusted to follow the winding roads I have.

When deployed my batteries are two model guns on either 60mm total frontage or 80mm frontage for both guns combined not per gun. When the two limbers are deployed behind the gun line the width of the gun bases won't match the width of the limber bases but I've decided I'm not bothered by this mis-match.

Just to explain my stand, I leave the back space open, whatever battery is on the move I place a 2 gun stand of that battery on the back end. As the battery unlimbers the entire battery is place back on the board. I do not have enough limbers for all my batteries nor ever will. I have I think 88 batteries total in all my armies.
