I've been trying to find Andrew Parr's Fortune & Glory Rules with little success. I tried Elite Miniatures Australia who used to have them but have yet to get a reply. Does anyone know where I can buy a copy? Or can you recommend an alternative? I need some simple rules to use for solo games & don't want to rebase/restructure my DFII armies which use 4 bases for Inf/Cav & 2 for Art. Regards, j |

You can do no wrong by trying 321 – Fast Play Napoleonic Rules, found here: link He's a real gentleman who will answer any questions and is always open to suggestions. This site is an inspiration and easy to read (no black background or fancy crap). |

Simple is Commands & Colors: Napoleonic. It is based on a hexagonal grid, which means there is never any confusion or need for rules interpretation when it comes to maneuver. As soon as you no longer have some type of grid, rules become very complicated and many ambiguities arise in the rules concerning movement and maneuver. |

At the risk of being accused of hubris, you might like to have a look at my "Brown Bess" rules which appeared in Nugget 317 – you can download a copy here: link Note that you need the password which is shown next to the link. The game is designed to be played on a 3' x 4' table with up to about 12 units a side – if using a 4' x 6' table it is suggested that 50% is added to all distances. Base sizes are up to you. |

Neil Thomas' Napoleonic rules: link and his Napoleonic rules in his Introduction: link are both really simple. |

You could also look at Bob Cordery's Portable Napoleonic Wargame. See his Wargaming Miscellany blog ( link ) for details. |

There is also Snappy Nappy and DBN, the latter being DBA for the Napoleonic period. |

I have a Beta version of Fortune & Glory I can email you. It would have to be pretty close to the published version. |

That would be great Bandolier, thanks. I just wanted to get an idea of whether they suited me or not before I spent a lot of time & effort trying to track them down further. Unfortunately, as a Verified Member I can't PM you so how do we do this? |

Neil Thomas' rules are very cool but for his Napoleonics, I never liked his homogenized approach to the unit structures. I feel like the national differences in unit sizes and personalities is part of what makes Napoleonics unique. But the rules are indeed simple. |

@ianjgow – you can drop your email here or ask an editor to pass it on to me. |

As to Neil Thomas' rules: "But the rules are indeed simple." And why it is so easy to add national differences and units sizes if you want. We often play with six stand French and five stand British units for example. There are some national differences already contained within the rules which we slightly expand upon, keeping within the spirit of his rules. |

Ok, Bandolier, thanks ianjgow@yahoo.co.uk I look forward to checking these rules out |
