Interesting, and gave me a chance to practice my French!

A French guy building an army of 15th Central Americans makes me think I'm not so unusual in building armies from far off (in time as well as distance), exotic lands. I've spent my life in the central USA, and would be a natural for doing Plains Indian wars armies, or Francisco Coronado and his Conquistadors looking for the seven cities of Cibola. But, no, I have Greeks, Vikings, British and French colonials. If I can't go to Khartoum or Marathon or Miklagard, I'll just have to bring them to me.
Anybody else feel that a similar interest in the exotic helped drive their choice of armies to build?
