I remember seeing a interview of Jeri Ryan while she was on Voyager, and she was relating a story about her son (She was a single mom at the time) being taken to a toy store by his nanny and being allowed to buy 1 toy.

And what does he pick? A Seven of Nine action figure. A action figure of his mother. And when he played with it, it wasn't called Seven of Nine, it was "Mommy".

The interview commented that the kid was going grow up "messed up", and Jeri had to agree.

I'll never fully understand the hoo haa here. I guess you had to be there. I didn't catch it's original run. Polar opposite of Kes, I guess the production thought the dramatic change necessary. Not sure how she wasn't confined to the brig until getting back to earth either. At least she wasn't captain!

Many kids probably call their toys after real family members. I think, traditionally girls dolls and house was modeled after them and the family home. Nothing new there.
