If a base is manufactured in brown plastic, do you still paint it?

* I use it unpainted
* I paint it
* I don't use brown plastic bases
* brown is the wrong color for me

Zeelow06 Feb 2020 5:32 p.m. PST

paint it.

I paint all my bases to match the main tabletop they'll be used in.

von Schwartz06 Feb 2020 5:59 p.m. PST

Bases MUST be flocked!!!! (smile)

Paint it.

Syrinx006 Feb 2020 6:01 p.m. PST

They almost never match the tabletop but I still paint it.

Paint it to conform with all the others. Krylon Fusion Satin Khaki for all of them!

Bases MUST be flocked!!!! (smile)

But you could flock an unpainted base. wink

I 'flock' without painting. I paint wood glue on the base, then I apply colored sands. Cheap, easy, super-fast. Cheers!

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut06 Feb 2020 7:35 p.m. PST

I would paint them to match all my other bases.

Slow Oats06 Feb 2020 11:26 p.m. PST

I paint everything on a model, base included. It keeps everything consistent. Right now I use cardboard from cereal boxes as bases though, so they would need to be painted anyway (unless someone can find a historical source for battles fought on Cheerios).

Paint it.

Whether it comes as auburn, almond, beaver, bistre, bole, brown sugar, buff, burnt sienna, burnt umber, canela, camel, caramel, chamoisee, chestnut, chocolate, clove cocoa, coffee, cordovan, coyote, desert sand, drab, dark brown, earth, ecru, fallow, fawn, field drab, fulvous, golden brown, khaki, lion, liver, mahogany, nutmeg, raw umber, redwood, rufous, russet, rust, sand, sandy brown, seal brown, sepia, sienna, sinopia, tan, taupe, tawny, umber, Walnut, wenge, or wheat …

all bases must be plain flat black.

Bashytubits07 Feb 2020 9:33 a.m. PST

You just had to go with flat black.

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2020 2:13 p.m. PST

I don't use plastic bases.
But if I did, I'd use the same technique as on .y wooden bases. Wood filler, 3 or 4 layers of paint, followed by flock and tufts.

Plastic brown SINGLE FIGURE BASE: spay paint hunter green and sprinkle with assorted static grass and sand. The difference between this and a green or gray base is that I would not paint the edge.

My bases always end up being black. With or without flock depending on the model. But all I do is 6mm …

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP08 Feb 2020 12:16 a.m. PST

I always at least paint all non-transparent bases.

von Schwartz10 Feb 2020 7:10 p.m. PST

But you could flock an unpainted base.

Don't pee on my parade. (smile)

I see eto is getting good use out of that thesaurus his significant other gave him this Christmas.
