Of all the Diadochi that surrounded Alexander at his death, down to the reign of Cleopatra the VII …who is your favorite Successor? (this may include members of Alexanders family as well). link |

I've always had a soft spot for Eumenes of Cardia. A decent general who was a good match for Antigonus. A shame he was betrayed by his Macedonian veterans… |

Ptolemy is probably the most interesting. Kept his empire alive by playing enemies off one another. While his aspirations never were realized, he held things together for quite some time. |

Seleucus Nicator. The Seleucids were the only Successor state who tried to keep alive Alexander's dream of uniting Hellenic and Persian cultures. |

Lysimachus. Gives me an excuse to build a Successor core army, a Thracian army, and I can put those Hoplites to use. They're pretty and interesting to fight with. pjm |

When I first started reading what happened after Alexander, I was instantly drawn to Seleucus I and Ptolemy I. Later reading drew me in the direction of Pyrrhus for army building and Cassander for pure interest. |

Ptolemy, for the Egyptian stuff. |

Seleucus I Nicator, his army could have a little bit of EVERYTHING!! |
Lucius | 06 Feb 2020 6:08 p.m. PST |
Pyrrhus. You get to fight Romans AND Carthaginians AND other Successors. |

Antigonus I Monophthalmus and his son Demetrius Poliorcetes. They came so close to stitching Alexander's empire back together. |

Seleucus I. His army looked like the parade at the end of Mr. Peabody |

My favourite Pirate, Antigonus. But, I'm sure, we all know the real answer is "the strongest'. |

Seleucus, came from nowhere compared to others in the struggle to stop Antigonos. |

Antigonus I Monophthalmus (although not so keen on his son Demetrius Poliorcetes) but for the same reasons Big Red gives. But really the choice changes after each possible candidate get bumped off and the pickings for someone with the ability to pull it together get thinner and thinner. SO really its not a singel choice just a list of diminishing returns. |

…such a pity that Eumenes was betrayed… |

Antigonos, not because he was old and corpulent, but he had a sense of humor. Not too many other Successors were noted as being as clever and witty as he was. Is my top choice. But Seleucus was even better at clever, and he had charisma and could talk enemies into surrendering before a fight, and recognized what a psychopath Perdiccas was, and he offed him. So he is my top choice too. So it is a tie. Ipsus broke the tie. Seleucus triumphed and Antigonos pratfalled and couldn't get back up. A reminder to all of us that it's time to downsize your miniature collection, and your ambitions, before you are 80 years old. link

Antigonus I Monophthalmus Also, closest to keeping it together, then Mithradates if he counts |

Mithradates definitely counts! (As does the much hated Trevor!) |

Technically wouldn't that Alexander be a contemporary rather than a successor? I find that Alexander's Italian campaign really interesting but I've never been able to nail down what his army would look like. |

Too true Rupert! He died too early to be a Successor. If I ever get around to doing Alexander vs Samnites, Lucanians & Bruttians I'd assume his army would be similar to the one the other Alexander took to Asia. |

Antigonod gets my vote; it took all the others to stop him. I love that Antigonos miniature, I just wish GB would reissue it or I could find something else as good! |
