Good, but the author falls into a few common errors. First, quite a few of the Tories DID return to the US from Canada. As an example, one of my collateral ancestors, Jacob House, had been a Captain in Johnson's Greens (aka the King's Royal Regiment of New York) went to Canada, decided he didn't like it, and returned, taking the Loyalty Oath in 1803 or 1804. He served in the Kentucky militia, reaching the rank of Colonel, and was only prevented from serving against the British in 1812-5 by physical infirmity (being in his late sixties). His story was not unusual.

Second, the Canadian term United Empire Loyalists did NOT refer to all the emigrants, it was the name of an organization, and indeed, an exclusive one. One had to have been an officer or other government official (or the widow or offspring of same) to join. It was a disruptive forcing Canadian politics throughout the first 2/3 of the 19th Century, and actually opposed Dominion status!
