Does anyone have any experience with how Contrast Paints work over a base of Krylon white?

I happened to find a can of Krylon Fusion white on top of one of my tool chests in the garage. I do not remember buying it and my wife says she did not, so either it's a gift from above or my memory is not as good as I hope it is…

Regardless, I was heading out to prime my EIR Romans and Germans (ancient) so I did decided to try it out. I did some shields using Corax White (GW paint) and some using the Krylon white and the GW "white" is clearly a grey… I know it's not meant for Contrast paints, but I am trying it as the darker shade for a zenithal experiment with the white being the highlight for some and Wraithbone for others.

It's just drying now, so I will let everyone know tomorrow how it went, but if anyone has any experience with this combination, please let me know how it turned out.

(I am redoing some of my Germans because I tried an experiment of putting Contrast over a grey automotive primer when I first got some Contrast paints and it was … well, I'd get the word "bleeped" on here so there is no point … but "garbage" is not strong enough.)

I would try a test spray on a mini you dont really care about. Krylon can be a bit grainy and that will be quite noticeable with contrast paints.

I have put contrast paints over a few prime colors. In my limited experience (a) it need not be a GW product and (b) it must be a very light color – white, tan, pale gray etc.

I've used contrast past over Krylon with no problems, although it was the Krylon Ultra Flat Camo on metal minis. I used the tan as a base coat for Italians in the Western Desert and light gray for early war Germans and it worked fine. The contrast paints flow a little differently over the Krylon than the GW spray. I zenithal shaded the Krylon over dark grey primer and then dry brushed the base coated minis with white before painting. Came out looking good.

No pictures and far less done than I hoped.

I did paint the backs of 2 shields with wyldwood.

One wraithbone and the other the white krylon. They seemed to flow the same. The krylon is fairly smooth. A bit of a gloss to it.

The tone is almost identical but it seems a little starker with the white, a bit warmer with wraithbone.

However, I doubt anyone would notice a difference if they were never told which was which.

I note Krylon fusion makes an ivory. That might be one to use after I'm all out of wraithbone.

I finally had time to try a few colours on an Old Glory Ancient German. Seems to work pretty well!

Tones are bright, paint seemed to flow nicely.

The colour of Krylon Fusion is ‘Satin White'. It's fairly glossy. The spray nozzle's spray is pretty fine. Seems much better than GW spray cans.
