Hi

My Black Seas ships finally took to the high seas this week but instead of the Warlord Games rules, we used Post Captain from ODGW. I've written up the action and some thoughts on the rules on the blog…drop by and have a look.

A very good report and photos. A most enjoyable view. Thanks.

Looks great. I can't seem to find a copy of the rules anywhere though.

You can order them direct from ODGW. I bought mine from Caliver Books in the UK

Red,

I really have enjoyed Post Captain. It plays well with 1/700 ships. [ Your ships look nice BTW. ODGW have some nice wake bases that I use. ] The one part of Black Seas that intrigues me is the simplicity of its combat routine. While Post Captain's sailing routine is a little complex you really need it to make it feel like an AOS game. I am working on bolting on Black Seas combat routine to Post Captain. If I can do it that will be the best of both worlds for me.

Cheers

Joe

Joe…I think you're right. I wanted a game that 'feels' like an AoS game which Post Captain does. Black Seas might be fine but from what I'd read it didn't sound like it has the right flavour although the simplicity is a big plus in it's favour.

I really like the Post Captain rules. But they do tend to top out at about 1-2 ships per player, especially as ships start taking damage and need more tracking about which mast is sprung, what sails are set, what is the crew doing.. etc.. and I find the boarding action rules to be super complex.

Red3584, enjoyed your blog! I too use Post Captain as my rules of choice for my little GHQ 1:1200 scale naval battles.

I use black jewelry wire for my rigging. I cut the wire to length and superglue into place. I've found the wire adds considerable strength to the ship, and is so much less stressful to rig with than thread.

God bless,
John T.
