"American veterans watched US rangers re-enact an event from World War II during which Allied forces scaled cliffs above a Normandy beach to silence Nazi guns. The event was part of commemorations for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion."

Having visited the Pointe Du Huc it boggles my mind they were able to scale these cliffs, especially with the equipment of the time.

When I was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY, 1969-70, there was a platoon sergeant in one of our line companies who had been with the Rangers at Pointe Du Hoc. Some of the newer members of the battalion took this as some sort of joke, since WWII was in the movies so there couldn't be anyone left in the Army who had fought in it. Those of us who could read and do arithmetic knew that he not only fought in WWII but he still had 4 years to go before he made his 30.
