I am about to start painting a lot of 10mm Napoleonic cavalry, but I never found any paint colors I liked for horses. So I was thinking of trying either the new Contrast paints or Howard Hues Equine set. Anyone use the Contrast paints for 10mm horses? What colors did you use and what did you think of the end result? The HH Equine set looks interesting, it seems to include all the basic horse colors in one set. Anyone use this set? What did you think? |

Desert Fox: I have used contrast paints on 28mm and 1/72 horses to great effect. I see no reason why it wouldnt work on 10mm stuff. Prime horse white. Paint Snakebite leather over the white. Looks great. Hope that helps. Paul |

I have used the HH Equine paints for years. I really like them. I do add GW Washes or Inks to add depth. The HH Chestnut, Equine Black, and Light Bay get a lot of use! |

Apologies, not answering your questions, possibly another solution to think about. I've used this technique for sometime with 15mm horses, and they seem to come out looking horselike. Coat d'Arms horse tones as base, Citadel Nuln oil as a wash. The Cd'A horse tones by themselves look the wrong colour; once washed the colour tones down, looks a lot more subtle, as well as horse's physique becoming more defined by the wash. Just posted some cavalry on the ECW board if you want to see the effect. |

HH Equine paints; I have not heard of this set before. Where does one buy a set? Thanks. |

After painting hundreds of 28mm horses over several decades, I just finished a unit with contrast paints. I like them a lot. |

Thank you gentlemen, I'll give HH a go! |

I rather liked the HH colours but found they dried up very quickly. I ended up using the Foundry colours which have lasted me about three years so far! |
