I too use 3x5 index cards but more for my uniformed troops, though I some times take other notes on base colors.

You're making it sooo much more complicated than it needs to be.

My method is to create a word file listing the colors used by manufacturer, color name, and the paint number. The file also contains other information about the army.

I've been doing this for years and some of the manufacturers have gone out of business.

It does make it a little easier when I add to an army.
