I have recently had back surgery and as a result am somewhat laid up. My good wife bought me some magazines to read, one of which was "The Armourer" by Warners Group in the UK. After being somewhat less than enthusiastic when she told me on the 'phone about it I have to say it has been a thoroughly enjoying read.
The magazine is somewhat eclectic in its approach; it is a militaria magazine with plenty of articles/adverts/comments about militaria which is in itself actually quite interesting. However generally, the militaria is accompanied by articles. For example November 2019 issue had an article on The German Schutztruppen in WW1 Africa and not only gave a good background but then talks about kit, what it looked like, if it can still be found, and even has photos where possible.
The December issue has articles on Canadian militia in 1812, The Fall of the Berlin wall, The Battle of Mome Gorge, The Winter War, British uniform facings pre-1881 to mention a few, along with book reviews including Ospreys and all the militaria articles.
It is hard to actually describe how interesting a read this magazine is. It seems to have an identity crisis (describes itself as military history, events, auctions, collecting) but I feel it actually all comes together as a worthwhile purchase.

cheers

By coincidence the November 2019 and December 2019 issues piqued my interest too – specifically the articles on Schutztruppen (The Fight For East Africa) and the Winter war. The more recent issues – with lead articles about the Boxer Rebellion and Iwo Jima were of less interest.

It's not a magazine I'd pick up every month but, when you find a subject that you are interested in, then it is very, very useful for pictures of kit, uniforms, background information etc.

Overall I will keep my eye open each month (it's available in WH Smith in the UK), but only buy the issues that interest me.
