"Someone in the galaxy far, far away, looked at a man named Sheev Palpatine—Chancellor of the Republic, walking prune, fascist ruler of the Galactic Empire, evil space wizard—and, in their best Lando Calrissian impression, went "Hello, what have we here?"

This is a thing we know. But the real question isn't really if Sheev did the deed. It's more about when…"

Well – she's supposed to be his grand daughter so, I would suspect while he was "undercover" (so to speak) as the decent, caring Senator Palpatine – he was probably married to someone he kept in the dark.

IVF or artificial womb – remember the cloning tanks?

The whole movie was one big distraction, keeping you running from one moment to the next at breakneck speed, shouting "Look it's a callback to something you fondly remember." And every time you go like "Palpatine had kids." Abrams grabs a bullhorn and shouts "Look it's Maz Kanata !"

Honestly as a con by a huckster the movie works pretty well, it's a crime against everything storytelling represents that passes for a decent enough film.

Wait. There's a rule that powerful evil people can't have sex? Since when, exactly?

For that matter, is there a rule that women won't have sex with rich powerful men if the men are evil? That too would seem like a very recent development.

Patrick, the movie was not in any sense a distraction. Would that it had been. I was happy to leave in the middle of the "excitement" to stand in line for popcorn. The popcorn I remember fondly. The movie not so much. But it wasn't bad if you use the Abrams "Star Trek" and "The Force Awakens" as a standard of comparison.

Hollywood appears to be running low on story-tellers.

Abrams is betting that nobody could care less about when and how the Zombie Lord sired a daughter because he walked back TLJ and kissed the back ends of fanboys.

Even Papa Palpatine was a teenager once.

Movies are no longer written, they are reverse engineered from previous successes.

they are reverse engineered from previous successes.

And viewer tested, rewritten and reshot after numerous audience test screenings and feedback.

It's an obvious shortcoming in the Force that Vader couldn't detect that Princess Leia was his daughter in the first SW…

As my adult daughter said "It's never a good idea to dig too far into the plot of any Star Wars movie"

Well he didn't sire a daughter…

He sired a son who than had her.
