Anyone gamed this and have some advice for sources, figures, blogs, anything that would be helpful? It strikes me [so far] as a lot like colonials in size, scale, scope and would be good for a "The Sword and the Flame" type of game, with repeating rifles and direct-fire artillery, some machine guns, irregular cavalry / dragoons, etc. Any references for the fighting would be great – so far there's plenty out there I've found about the civil war itself, but not as much about it as a military topic. Personally, I think putting together an effective army in a mess like this is quite interesting, as interesting as the Russian Civil War. Thanks in advance! |

Old Glory has a nice 28mm range and I believe Outpost Wargames Service also has a range in 25/28mm. In 20mm Raventhorpe had a range but I never saw those figures. There are quite a few decent publications on the armies and military campaigns. Osprey has a book and On Military Matters has a good selection of titles. I think it offers everything from skirmish to larger operations. I've wanted to game it but there aren't any proper ranges in 10mm or 15mm. |

We play this quite frequently and quite like it; you have lots of different sized scenarios you can play – most of our figs are from Outpost link Pulp Figures have some figures as well – not as complete a range and a bit beefier than the Outpost figs link The Osprey book on the Mexican Revolution is very helpful link |

I presume you mean the series of conflicts from 1910 to 1920 (and therefore entirely within the 20th century) known to historians as 'The Mexican Revolution'. This thread reads like it's from twenty years ago. In recent years there have been countless detailed discussions of this conflict and how to go about table-topping it here on TMP; just do a search under 'Mexican Revolution'. There's no point repeating their contents; you'll find that everything you need to know has already been thoroughly churned over. Amongst those TMP threads you'll find much discussion of the series of heavy-duty, hyper-detailed military histories of the Mexican Revolution authored by Dr Joe Janssens under the general title 'Maneuver and Battle in the Mexican Revolution'. Since they were published we Mex Rev enthusiasts have no longer had to rely on poring through general and social histories like those on Ralph Peters' list for any morsel of information we could track down. |
