As this year will see the 375th anniversary of the Battle of Naseby, here is the first (I imagine of many ) events commemorating the battle. Daventry Museum has an exhibition of artefacts from the battlefield, here's my blog entry on the exhibition link
And for those of you planning a first visit to the battlefield here's postcodes, grid references and instructions on how to get to the vantage points link |

Nice report, KYPD38 ! As one of the contributors, my favourite achievement is that we got plenty of the shot finds to go with the shot distribution map in the little archaeology section. It isn't a big space, so there's only so much that could be done – but hopefully people will get something out of it (especially locals who will be getting a number of connected events during the next few months). It is a flavour of what could be done if we were able to get a proper visitor centre at Naseby Phil |

Thanks Phil, really nice to see your painting of Peter Pig figures on the Naseby model. The rest of your figures are Minifigs and Essex? When you visit Bosworth and see the visitor centre there, the contrast with the situation at Naseby is very noticeable. Very definitely needs a visitor centre. Although the battlefield is well presented with the viewpoints/boards/apps. Compare with Marston Moor which has even less love The exhibition is really good, do you by any chance, know if the artefacts on loan from Leics CC are normally on display elsewhere? |

Thanks Phil, really nice to see your painting of Peter Pig figures on the Naseby model. The rest of your figures are Minifigs and Essex? The original figures were once the Pike and Shot Society's 'Marston Moor' show game from the late 80s – mostly Minifigs 'strip' 15mm plus others of a similar age. They were donated when it was clear that the Naseby model was behind schedule. The PP figures are basically all the bits that were Naseby specific and were needed irrespective of the donation. But i think they do all look 'of a piece'. Graham Fordham revamped the model for me a couple of years ago with his fabric 'fluttering flags' (as previously it was a mix of cast metal and paper 'wrap arounds): again, it helps harmonise the mix I think …
… do you by any chance, know if the artefacts on loan from Leics CC are normally on display elsewhere? Can't say for sure but I know we have some stuff from from Market Harborough Museum, which may be tagged LCC. Whether it is usually in store or on display may vary. I remain convinced that we will eventually achieve a bespoke Visitor Centre for the battlefield. The process of getting there, however, often feels like shifting the sand in the desert with a teaspoon . Phil |

Thanks Phil. Last time I visited Market Harborough Museum there was a 'blink and you missed it' display of Naseby artefacts. It's a really good little museum, imaginatively displayed, just very little of 'Naseby' on display. |

Thanks for the info on this, I'll have to drop in to Daventry soon! Doesn't feel like 25 years since the 350th anniversary! |
