I painted 12 of the HaT ones about 2 years or more ago. Two bases so too small a unit but I ran out of figures. I did look up some uniforms & painted them (I think) as some Pennsylvania regiment – the identifying label was torn off when I re-based them a year ago. So, I'm adding some newly arrived X 18 figures from Musket Miniatures to the unit to make it a viable size. I want to check some uniform details but can't find the regiment. I'm sure this is correct: Light blue kepi Dark blue jacket with red embroidery Light blue chasseur pants White gaiters I chose this as a contrast to the ubiquitous red pants Zouaves; something a bit different. Any idea which regiment it is? Any link to a picture? Not only can't I find anything but our 'ACW-nut' (who knows just about everything ACW) tells me "I'm dreamin'". Or am I mad? |

try and google images of the 76th Pa. Keystone Zouaves. Mostly seen with red trim and a dark blue fez. Or the 69th Pa. as another option. |

You may have used one of these pictures of the 72nd Pennsylvania. link The 69th was a conventional unit, basic Union uniform. They held near Alonzo Cushing's battery at the High Water Mark at Gettysburg. The 72nd was near them as well. Did anyone notice that Cushing was finally awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor a few years ago? GdeP |

Thanks, gents. The 72nd Pennsylvania it is. I do not know where I got the light blue kepis from. A small re-paint is in order. |

I see the 69th is supposed to have had 1 company of zouaves. I re-enacted with the 69th for a short time, and we did NOT remember such a company. GdeP |

Baxters Zouaves for sure. |

Yes, the light blue kepi threw me as well. There is a nice illustration of the 72nd Pa (Baxter's Fire Zouaves) in the Osprey Elite Series 62 – American Civil War Zouaves. |

Thanks, Ed. Your undoubtedly familiar with these two videos? I like them because although your average re-enactor can get uniform details correct, it's off-putting to have them modelled by old & overweight re-enactors. These look pretty good: YouTube link YouTube link |

Ochoin – oh yes ! I recall clearly one scene from the 'Gettysburg' film in which a picket post seemed to be in charge of a 60-ish man with pot belly and full beard ! I've seen the YouTube videos to which you provided links. During the 150th ACW anniversary years, I posted a daily snippet of something relevant to that date from 150 years ago. Read through many many letters home, diaries, etc. and found a very common complaint was rations, followed by good water. US soldiers especially requested foodstuffs. Not hard to imagine most 'in the field' types would be lean and spare on campaign. |
