"It's 2020. Have you seen what's big in pop culture right now? Firefly might have come along and be promptly murdered shortly thereafter 18 years ago at this point, but if you can rely on anything in this life, it's death, taxes, reboots, and the persistence of browncoats. Which is why Firefly producer Tim Minear sharing some retro behind-the-scenes snaps from the show's final day of shooting on New Year's Day sparked enough wistful reminiscing about bringing the show back that the media has once again turned to Fox executives and asked "Will You Do The Thing?"…" Main page link They have my vote…

They'd be better off at CW; Disney-FOX would kill it off after 2 episodes (can't have it competing with their precious Star Wars franchise, after all…) Come to think of it, weren't most of the characters already killed off…? ;-) |

Yea, I'm not impressed with what's been done with SW, other than the excellent "Rogue One" movie. |

@Thresher: have you not watched Mandalorian? I'm not even a huge SW fan, but it's pretty watchable … (maybe ess3 to 5 less lo)… Or watch Boyz and Watchmen (but Watchmen ain;t gonna get the feel of TMP! Boyz will!!! |

The recently Star Wars movies, meaning all after the original trilogy, have all been bad, bad, bad. Even Rogue One was a could-have-been good movie except for the last half hour. The Star Wars television shows have all been excellent, however. For me Clone Wars was so good that it partially redeemed the abominations that are crapisodes 1, 2, and 3. Even Ron Howard couldn't fix Solo. I'd like to see Disney give Dave Feloni and the Clone Wars / Rebels team a crack at making a movie and stop giving money to JJ Abrams to destroy both Star Wars and Star Trek. Having said that rant, I would LOVE to see someone pick up where the Firefly series left off and make a bunch of television episodes between the end of the series and Serenity. In the same vein, I would love to see some movies set in the middle of the first (and only good) Captain America movie before the death of the red skull and him going into suspended animation. |

I don't think they'll ever get the same vibe that the cast had. Now, if they came up with a series of stories in the same 'verse, that could be interesting. Stories based on managing a ranch, maybe 3-5 episodes, enough to develop some of the characters. What happened to the bank guard that locked everyone in the vault before the Reaver attack? A few episodes on those people's recovery. The rise of Niska. How did he get to be so…vile? The rise of Mr. Universe (silly character, but I'm sure there is a story there). Just what are the blue hands up to? Maybe a few episodes showing how hard they are working to bring peace and harmony to the verse. There are lots of stories to be told, the TV execs just need to not screw it up…again. |

18 years! Really not sure it should be touched, but… Trying anything with the old cast is unlikely to work for various obvious reasons – nor just starting with new or partly new cast from episode 13. Personally not sure the 'verse was really set up for other stories in the same way as say Trek or even SW. Personally I'd say the least worst option would be to re-shoot the first twelve episodes (if it ain't broke…) with a new, and carefully picked cast that can do comedy-drama, make a full series (I'm sure Joss probably had a story arc jotted down) and actually show it in the order the creator intended! Yeah, the fans will say the new Mal isn't the old Mal etc, but hopefully by the time it hit episode 13 the new actors would have bedded in, new fans would be watching and the old ones would be hooked into finding out what happens next like we always wanted to…. |

Hopefully not a woke reboot…will the main character be a captain named "Mel-issa?" |

Reboot? NO! I love that series – I've watched it through four times now, and I was thinking of giving a fifth viewing. The problem is just that too much time has gone by. Ron Glass(Shepherd) passed away a few years ago, and all of the cast have gone off to do other gigs. Plus they frigging killed off Wash! It would take a herculean effort to bring everyone back together for a follow-up, and I'm not sure you could recapture the magic after all this time. Hopefully Joss Whedon will prove me wrong someday. |
