After a longer break than planned we get the Gembloux Gap campaign for Chain of Command up and running again. The Germans have started to make some progress but need to continue to push hard if they are to have any hope of winning the campaign. With no further chance of reinforcements the current platoon must take every new map at the first asking. A tall order, can they do it? The full AAR is here Blitz on Villeroux AAR

That was wrapped up pretty quick courtesy of some very lucky double moves; you didn't even need to deploy your ‘armour'. What's even better is achieving the win without losses to carry forward. I do still find it odd that the opinion of the French commander and men on the new platoon leader is based on the performance of his predecessor. Your opponent must hate the sight of that damned Stuka, I think I would've accidentally knocked it off the table by now… ;o) Still a long way to go and no room for error… |

A bit of luck for sure, but Dave's decision to deploy the platoon Lieutenant in such an isolated position when he could have bolstered that flank with another unit was what made the close assault a viable action. Had he done that I would have needed to bring up the second squad and win a firefight before considering a close assault. By then the advantage of the double phase would have passed and who knows what may have them unfolded. Sometimes we make our own luck and a deployment along those lines would have given the French some insurance against a German double phase (and after all it was the flank most under threat). Onwards! |
