Nothing wrong with the period, just avoid the RN who are (or ought to be in most games) so overwhelmingly predominant.

Anyway for those of us who don't have 3D printers is there any likelihood this range might also be sold as printed or (probably cheaper) resin castings?

You can even up the competition up by setting your AoS games in the American War of Independence. Napoleonic War period ship models will fill just about every model need.

Off the top of my head – Name a fleet engagement won by the RN against the French during the AWI … other than The Saintes. You will find plenty of drawn actions and some British withdrawals (Byron at Grenada, Hood at St Kitts, for example), but that is about it.
