We played Cowpens yesterday using my 54mm figures, four infantry to a unit, and two cavalry (who each take two hits). Close, fun game with the British at one victory flag to five Continental victory flags until the last three turns when the British unleashed their cavalry attack which led to a British victory.

Nice. At that scale you can actually see the uniforms.

Yay, good to see Tarleton win this one!

Nice. What rules do you use?

79thPA, Sorry, I should have made it clear, we were playing the AWI version of Commands & Colors, called Tricorne. As a dyed in the wool miniatures player, I was skeptical, at first, about playing what is basically a card game on a hex grid board, but the game plays quickly, with a comparatively small amount of units and no rulers!

I thought it might be something like that. Thanks.

Looks good!

We do a lot of Commands and Colors Ancients and Napoleonic using 15mm or 25mm figures.

ColCampbell, C&C will never replace traditional miniatures games for me, but I do think it's a very elegant system for playing large (and small) battles without the need for arguing over fudged distances. Something is either three hexes away or it isn't.

Looks great Nick. Thanks.

I don't have that version but I did CC using the Napie version modified for years in 54mm. I went over to double sized units and squares but used the cards and dice.

Do you find that due to their intrinsic weight or scale, 54mm are more likely to get damaged during play?

Any figure gets some damage over the course of play. Obviously, more use will probably mean more wear. I have found with my 54's, mostly plastic, wear can be minimized. When garnishing my figures, I generally use two coats, the second being a high gloss varnish by Liquitex. I also find that attaching them to steel washers maintains stability. Indeed, if they get knocked to the floor, more often than not,the weight of the washer causes them to land upright. Check my blog, link There are a number of photos showing the figures.
