Hi All As the subject line suggests, I am wondering if Empress Miniatures' rather spirited lancers would be suitable for the early Sudan. In particular I am considering 5th Royal Irish Lancers as part of the Nile Expedition 1884. I'm new to the period, and have begun collecting Perry Miniatures. While their hussars can be purchased with ‘improvised lances', I am wondering if the Empress figures would be suitable for a dedicated lancer unit like the fifth. What do we think? Cheers JJ |

It depends how accurate you want to be. They aren't exactly right for the Sudan, helmet is wrong and the equipment isn't quite right either. |

Guy here used the Perry's cavalry with some slight conversions and they look pretty good. link |

Better to convert the Perry's stuff as the uniform is more accurate. |

Thanks for the replies. I have seen Michael's (the blogger) Perry figures … and thought that would be the way to go … but liked the spirit of the Empress sculpts. I imagine, that since the fifth served in India, they would have been equipped with bamboo lances, rather than ash. Does anyone here know which, though? Cheers JJ |
