Most of the plates do show Landsknechts which are way before the TYW. Landknechts went out of use around 1580, being replaced gradually by infantry that was different in organization, character and fashion. Eg one important change was that from being a social step ahead by becoming a soldier it was a step down – the prestige of the Landsknechts was totally different from that of a TYW soldier, and its pay changed from good (if infrequent) to lousy (and still infrequent). The term "Landsknecht" stayed in use long after the Landsknechts as self-governed regiments vanished, with the WW2 "Landser" as its lingering remnant. That preached… nice list, thanks. Usefull if you know that it is NOT about Landsknechts or TYW only, and at no page combined :-) |
