Has anyone completed any Great War modifications to Nuts!, the Two Hour Wargames set of rules for World War Two? I imagine it should be easy to use the rules pretty much as they are for the Great War, but wanted to see if anyone has actually put ideas down and could share. Thanks! |

I know it's been discussed on their forums in the past, but it may have been on Yahoo Groups or an earlier forum and lost. Off the cuff suggestions: Single shots (Target 1) for all weapons except machine guns. One activation to prime grenades and can throw on the next activation. WWI grenades were not the same as WWII grenades. Scenario ideas include: prisoner snatch, trench raids, crossing no man's land, defending from above, laying communication wire, set up wire (defend this spot for X turns while the second team strings wire, usually at night). Night ops limit visibility to 12 inches. Roll randomly for flares (lose an activation or risk getting at by everyone). Gas attacks, roll randomly for casualties (didn't get mask on fast enough, took it off too early, didn't put it on right) |

I don't know the ruleset well but here are some additional thoughts. Single shots seems sensible for the bolt action rifles. With 'machine guns', you need to distinguish between medium machine guns (Maxim; Vickers; MG08; Hotchkiss for example) and the automatic rifles as they were called at the time (Lewis gun; MG08/15; Chauchat for example). From 1916 onwards, grenades were pre-primed and operated in the same manner as their WW2 counterparts. The only time you might consider priming as an activation would be some of the early grenades, which had a fuse that had to be lit. Robert |

Here is an example of British soldiers priming Mills bombs before a raid:
