As one can infer these dates and categorizations are somewhat arbitrary. But the fall of Constantinople, where previously impregnable ancient fortifications were brought down by cannons (and a postern gate left conveniently open) marks a turning point at least in the art of siege warfare; and is a harbinger of the a new age of gunpowder weapons. Thus 1453 as an historical tide shift…"

Duke John of Bedford at Verneuil 1424 would get my vote.

Talk about a battle lost and forcing the issue, iron willed, to then win a battle that was really lost within the first two or three minutes.
