Mr NV looks great. The green is absolutely right yet again, with great highlights. I do like the figure. I know NV was generally a better built lad than Cousin Charles, but they were still scrawny lads with tight fitting outfits. I hope if anyone does ever do ARVN they will remember….little guys, huge helmets and weapons, very tight fitting pants/overalls/trousers whatever you call them. They are not scaled down Marines…that would be too easy |

Nobody ever seems to want ARVN figures. It would be interesting to see what a good sculptor could manage – but I think sales will always be too small to justify the work. It's a pity. ARVN were the largest component [appraoching 1 million in 1972] fighting the NLF/PAVN and suffered around 250 000 Killed. I haven't seen any suitable figures for ROK troops either. [over 5000 were killed]. |

It is puzzling I agree. If I did chuck dice I would want to create a realistic mixture of troop abilities, accepting that some ARVN units did achieve elite status anyway. You cannot realistically just use SS, Imperial Guard, 101st…. I would love to see someone try it in 28mm. My only worry is that they…I will say it again….just make smaller US Marines. If you want to fight Hue or the whole of Tet how can you ignore the ARVN? |

Players tend to want to portray the more effective units in any conflict, however unrealistic. ARVN are never going to be a popular choice though they could be interesting. Prior to the Vietnamization phase they were kept in the background and were very poorly equipped. ARVN performance in combat was more varied than the jokes suggest but was mostly what you might expect from an abysmally led, poorly trained and unmotivated conscript army. In the final weeks of the fighting a few ARVN divisions put up desperate resistance. It's not generally known that after 1975 GVN forces and collaborators where interned in re-education camps which were perhaps understandably brutal. Knowing what the wrath of the victors would be no doubt motivated some ARVN to fight harder than they previously had before. It is a difficult subject to game. Mostly players gravitate towards the 'big war' and ignore the village war. When I played I was most interested in airmobile operations in the highlands regions. It was more of a level playing field and while the mountains did have inhabitants [Hmong and Montagnard minorities mostly] it was not at all like the Mekong Delta or Quang Nam. |

Arvn and Mikeforces are available in 20mm from Elheim. They are quite nice. So there must be some kind of market for them. Nice paint job on Nathaniel Victor! Thanks John |
