How often do you see situations like this on your battlefields?

The ol' parking lot. Happens a lot with certain scenaria(TY,FoW,etc.)

14th NJ Vol12 Dec 2019 7:49 a.m. PST

Depends on several things:
1). Too many toys on too small a table.
2). Rules, some allow stuff to be fender to fender.
3). Players who don't understand the power of artillery or air to bust up clusters like that.

Our Group has suffered all 3. Now I think we play smarter & generally avoid the traffic jams.

Sundance12 Dec 2019 9:14 a.m. PST

No.

M4rtinFierro12 Dec 2019 9:15 a.m. PST

I am sure similar scenes often occur in the real world at bottlenecks like bridges.

Parking lots happen when you have too many tanks for your table, regardless of what rules you use. People like to abuse Flames of War for it, but I've seen it happen with almost any rule set you can name.

Not sure I understand the issue. that just looks like my commute home in the metropolitan DC area, except with fewer weapons.

Fat Wally12 Dec 2019 9:37 a.m. PST

Jeffers +1 LOL

Damn the cloud cover we need air support now!

Looks like a fun non-serious computer game. What's it called, World of Tank Parks?

5 bucks was too expensive? ,-)

Guess nobody here plays Fortnite!

Covert Walrus12 Dec 2019 2:02 p.m. PST

Bigby Wolf said "Guess nobody here plays Fortnite!"

Given how few of the members are 12YOs with neurological issues, anger management challenges and drug dependencies, that's not surprising :)

To address the main issue, that scene happens to at times: Some rules sets make it happen by accident or design, however it can also be a player – based thing. It's a matter of experience and timing.

Not a big enough table

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP12 Dec 2019 3:23 p.m. PST

Hanau! Fought in 30mm CLS about 1971. By the wonders of marked maps, simultaneous movement and divided command, a Bavarian cuirassier regiment managed to collide with itself trying to cross a bridge. (They were then charged in flank by French Guard. It was a memorable day.)

But etotheipi is right: it looks just like crossing the Occoquan Bridge after a hard day in the office.

Fewer where, on the AFVs or in the cars of the commuters?

That is why this is the game size I run at conventions!

Wolfhag12 Dec 2019 6:42 p.m. PST

tsofian,
That is AWESOME! I'd love to play it with micro armor. Talk about maneuver warfare!

It could be the division has just announced everyone has a 30 day R&R in Bangkok and they are all on their way to the airbase to catch a flight.

Looks like your typical Flames of War game?

Mad Mecha Guy13 Dec 2019 6:05 a.m. PST

thought the standard 40K tactic space marine was to bunch up and charge……

Bashytubits13 Dec 2019 7:00 a.m. PST

Ah 40k where MORE is always better.

Volleyfire13 Dec 2019 7:09 a.m. PST

Reminds me of Rapid Fire, or Snail Wars as we prefer to call it. It's not just a FoW thang, as some have already pointed out.

tsofian13 Dec 2019 1:23 p.m. PST

Its a Blue Moon Alamo and a Hugemont and a small village. I run The Hive and the Flame, Giant Bugs vs 1900 humans in 15mm. I run over a period of several sessions so players not only have space but also time. I'll be at Origins this year so please look us up!

ScoutJock13 Dec 2019 2:27 p.m. PST

Looks like the Bahgdad highway at the end of desert storm. There was no cloud cover and the A10s and Apaches had a field day.

Or the Sinai passes in the 67 war where the IAF reportedly ran out of napalm.

Yep, happens in real life.

With dreadful consequences.

Another way I've used my space at Origins

Someone should be calling in some Arty.

Can't let such a juicy target get away.

UshCha14 Dec 2019 8:17 a.m. PST

Hopefully it happens to my opponent. Unfortyunately he has far more than 1 brain cell and even I am not that daft, even though somtimes a unity of brain cell is all I have.

Our rules encourage it only in that stupidity is allowed.

Sargonarhes15 Dec 2019 7:52 a.m. PST

I've only seen that happen in RTS games, where every simple AI wants to pass the choke point all at once. At that point you start using hover tanks that say "screw the bridge".

von Schwartz15 Dec 2019 6:18 p.m. PST

Art must be a real badass

tsofian23 Dec 2019 5:37 p.m. PST

Arty is ABSOLUTELY badass!

Lion in the Stars27 Dec 2019 1:06 p.m. PST

Arty is often referred to as the God of War!

I'd just want to deconflict between the arty, helos, and fast air over that juicy target… Nothing ruins an airedale's day quite like 155mm "AA guns"

tsofian28 Dec 2019 10:05 a.m. PST

It also seems a perfect time for an Arclight strike if one could be arranged

Personal logo etotheipi Sponsoring Member of TMP28 Dec 2019 11:37 a.m. PST

Arty? Arclight? I think a disgruntled civilian with an armload of Molotov cocktails could rain hate and discontent on that mess.

Anybody know what the risk of sympathetic explosion is if you can get one or two of those to light off?
