Got myself this book to read up a bit about the specifications of the Huey for my Vietnam project. It is in german but a really good read , about 260 pages full of drawings and photos. I have got 2 1/48 Bell UH-1D birds to build. Just waiting for Empress to release helicopter crew figures.

You can get the book here: link

Spent a number air hours and time being a Rifle Plt Ldrs and then a Bn Air Ops Ofr[S3 Air] in the 101, '80-'83. I always will remember those experiences.

What scale do you think Empress are working to?

I know the argument about "scale" not applying when we are talking about miniature figures rather than machinery, vehicles, weapons.

I always understood 28mm to be roughly 1/56 scale. In my Napoleonics it did not matter too much. Horses were always too big anyway.

Hueys are bigger than my original impression from the 60s. I always then saw them as a light helicopter and, let's face it, they could not pack in many of the infantry/Marines. But in 1/48 I do wonder if they would dwarf any 28mm figures, whether the smaller Empress or the beefier Gringos40.

Hope to see your finished work here and thanks for the posting.

Gosh, I then went off to work out "Scales" for the two ranges. Your Hueys will need 6ft figures to be made at 1.5 inches tall. Soles of feet to tops of bare heads. Empress are 1.25 ins. Gringos, surprisingly are only 0.1 inches taller! The difference is in their builds which made me think the latter are much larger.(and I know I should work in cms and mms…but, at my age….naw)
