You were asked – TMP link

Would you invest in any army for a period or genre you did not care for, just because your friends/gang/club were getting into it?

35% said "yes"
32% said "no"
15% said "never again"

I have done this. And the figures you're still not painted. From 10 years ago :-(

Didn't vote but I'm with the 15%. Every time I've done this I've been the ‘completer/finisher' when the others have moved to the next shiny thing. It's also been my experience that it is never a reciprocal arrangement.

I always do both sides of every period I like. Never done just one side.

I've had this plan succeed 3 times with my groups: my DFW gang took up ACW "Rally Round the Flag" & each of us produced a brigade for our chosen side.
When we got into WRG Ancients tournament competition we also could play 2 player games & big battles with 3-4 of us on a side.
Later, in Galveston 2 friends & I fought a Punic War period campaign with Romans, Carthaginians & Successor Greeks.

Several members of our group decided to do 15mm Napoleonics. They were all over the major powers--France, Britain, Austria. I was happy to play with their toys, vaguely thinking perhaps I should make some contribution. Then, a pack of Saxon infantry showed up, at a very low price, so I bought them, figuring they'd provide some additional color. Their uniforms turned out to be white--so much for color! Still, I felt useful, they added a little something to our games, and they weren't expensive enough or time consuming enough to seriously impact the Vikings and Colonials I was also collecting at the time. And I know I've have bogged down seriously if I'd tried to add a major power, like Russia or Prussia.

I guess I must have been happy with the result, because I recently bought one (1) tank to participate in the "What a Tanker" games a couple of the guys have been running!

Regrettably I am among the 15% and have 3 partially painted armies to prove it, 15mm Alexandrian Successors, 25mm Biblical Lybians, and 15mm 1798-1807 Prussians (the Prussians are done to a corps size unit but no cavalry yet).

I, too have invested in a period an never got the figures on table.
I try as much as possible to get both sides so at least they get a game or two in!!!
