"The gladiator is an enduring image from the Roman World still widely recognised today, and while not a military subject, he has been a popular theme for plastic figures over the years. In the modern world boxing is perhaps the closest activity, where two men train hard and then fight each other until one is recognised as the winner. Serious injury and death are of course rare in boxing, but all too common amongst the gladiators of Ancient Rome, where the audience would expect to condemn to death a man who fought poorly and yielded to a superior fighter. Even at the time there were those who saw gladiatorial contests as barbaric, yet they were very popular among the masses, and gladiators who survived could amass both wealth and great renown, as well as attracting considerable interest from some women. The risks were high, but the rewards could be great, and while many were forced into the arena, some actually chose the lifestyle with all its hazards. The box for this set is very helpful in identifying all the elements to be found here, so we will follow this guide and look at each group of figures in turn…"

Not a full set at all, no Hoplomachus nor Retarius. Better to use 28mm. |

Not many figures. I wish PSR would list the prices for the sets and factor in a "value per figure" rating. At 24mm they should fit in with Orion, Pegasus, Italeri and Atlantic gladiators, though. |

The Prices vary, not only from seller to seller but also due to time. Older OOP sets sometimes demand high Prices so it would only work for recent sets. I could imagine it would be a herculean Task to Keep track of and update Price changes. Another factor. The above set, has a lot more poses than other Ultimate Ratio sets (for example) so would the "value per figure" be calculated on number of poses or number of figs per set? Example. I found the Price of €12.95 EUR for a set of Ultima Ratio swiss medievals. 24 figs with 8 poses. If I use all 24 the "value per fig" is 50cents If I only use one of each pose, €1.60 EUR. The Gladiators, €17.95 EUR I use all 24 = 74cents Only one of each pose =1.12 The 16 poses, even with the higher Price for the set make using only one of each pose more value than using only one of each pose of the Swiss medievals. (I hope I got the Maths Right :-/) |

That's a good point! Cost per figure AND cost per pose could (should) be factored in. Have a MSRP could certainly help people from paying unscrupulous prices on eBay. (I know the olde arguments, but what bothers me the most is the young person buying figures because they are getting into the hobby and since hobby shops stocking a full range of items is impossible they look online. Same with parents and grandparents buying for presents.) |

I agree, just I canīt see how it would work..Maybe an average Price ? Is that what MRSP stands for? It could help with determining wether the set on Evil bay (and online sellers as well) are actually of value* This, Strelets medieval Britain, just the "Special sprues" auction I Paid, if I remember, 24 euros for the complete set..they want 85 euros for just the "Special sprues"!!!! Or, A bargain compared with the above, the complete set, Special sprues included, 140 Euros!!! auction *Value? Eye of the beholder? If I didnīt already have the Medieval Britain set twice over, I would probably go for buying one of the above, but I am slightly obsessed with 1/72nd scale medievals The Gladiators. I wouldnīt pay 5 euros for them but then again, they aint medievals so have no "value" for me. |
