Interesting. I occasionally watch the DIY network program "Barnwood Builders." They've dismantled and reassembled several old cabins that were "concealed" inside a house when the owners improved them with wood, metal, or vinyl siding. They operate primarily in the Appalachians so a "concealed" cabin will be better preserved.

Maybe the Nevada County Depot and Museum should contact them for their assistance.
