I have large victrix roman and Carthaginian armies, but I was shocked by the much larger Iberian cavalry and gallic sculpts that victrix came out with later.

I would now like to make a successor army to fight the Victrix Republican Romans but I don't want to end up with super-sized pikemen or hoplites.

Are the Victrix hoplites and Macedonian phalangites scaled to match their romans/Carthaginians? Also, how do the warlord hoplites/Macedonians compare? Thanks.

I don't know about most of what you ask… but the Victrix Theban hoplites are pretty close to Warlord hoplites in height, but slightly chunkier and slightly bigger in the head. They also have a much thicker base. I have no problems putting them on the table together. However, the Victrix peltasts are altogether larger yet – half a head higher than the Thebans and beefier, with thicker bases to boot.

The Warlord Greek plastic pike match up well against the Victrix Republican Romans, but be careful with the various packs of Warlord lead figures for the Greeks and Macedonians. Some of them are fairly slight and while they look great in their own units, they won't mix well.

Victrix hoplites and macedonian infantry are perfectly fine with republican romans…

The cav just got a bit big… but you should be fine with it..

I'll post a picture for you to look later.. at least for you to so hyspaspists vs romans..

I personally can live with the big cav but undersrand some might not like it..

I can assure you the Victrix Macedonians match extremely well with the Warlord Macedonians!

I just got the Victrix phalangites last week and was very happy to see they matched up!

The extra Victrix Macedonian heads also fit on the Warlord/Immortal hoplites to make hypaspists/hoplites. (The heads included on the sprue for the Warlord/Immortal hoplites are very small making the figures more 25mm – replacing the heads allows them to be used with other 28mm figures.)

The Victrix Greek heads are a bit oversized to use on the Warlord/Immortal bodies. The Macedonian ones are far better!

I have not seen the Gauls in person but the Victrix write up for the figures literal says they are big:

The Gauls were big, muscular and strong and made for fearsome adversaries.

EDIT: Oh! The Victrix Phalagite pikes are VERY slender and a number were broken on the sprues I got! I replaced them with metal pikes (Warlord, Northstar, etc sell them – Warlord pikes may be 80mm while others are 100mm – you'll have to check).

The hands are also slender so when drilling them out just be careful and not ham fisted.
