well, the biggest issue is not that you're transiting a small part of the road, but the possibility of taking a detour to all the rest of Russia.
As long as you're across the border, you're technically here – and if you're really smart or a professional spy, there's your chance…

PS a couple of US embassy personnel obviously lost their way recently…they so wanted to collect mushrooms near Arkhangelsk, but were detained near biggest nuclear sub base city of Severodvinks ;)

Expensive mushrooms for those guys!… (smile)
